Why five badges and not one
Because a badge only travels if the site is pleased to display it, and one number only appeals to sites that like their number. “Blocks 0 of 8 AI crawlers” and “tracked since August 2026” are things a site is happy to say whatever its backlink profile looks like.
The tracked-since badge is the only one in the set that gets more interesting with age, which is the same reason the rest of this project exists.
Where the badge links to
Every badge points at domduck.com/domain/yourdomain, the record for the site hosting it, with your own domain as the referral tag. It does not point at our homepage.
That is deliberate on both sides. You get a page about your own domain, which is why you would keep the badge up. We get an external link into a page that needs one rather than the ten-thousandth link to a homepage that does not.
It never slows your page down
The badge is a small SVG served from our own domain with a six-hour cache. It reads our database and never calls anybody, so there is no upstream to be down and no reason for the response time to vary.
If we stopped collecting entirely, the badge would freeze at the last reading rather than going blank. The status page is where that would show.
Using it with shields.io
Every badge is also available in the shields.io endpoint schema, so you can render it in shields’ own style alongside the badges you already have. Copy the shields.io snippet above.
The self-hosted SVG stays the primary one. It is one request to one domain, where a shields badge is a request to shields, which then makes a request to us.
What the badge does not show
There is no composite score and there never will be. Every number here is somebody else’s published measurement or one we took ourselves, on a date we state. A made-up overall grade would be the one thing on this site that nobody could check.
